Painting Coach Feedback
"A bold and striking color scheme with neat base coating. The choice of vibrant magenta for the ethereal forms creates a great focal point, but the models currently lack the depth and volumetric contrast needed to stand out on a high level."
General Advice
- • Always finish your bases as part of the painting process, as it provides context and contrast for the entire miniature.
- • Focus on 'pushing the contrast' further than you think is necessary; what looks right up close often looks flat at arm's length.
- • Try using a wet palette to help with the smooth blending required for ethereal transitions and ghostly effects.
Suggestions for Improvement
Weathered and Rusted Metals
The metal weapons look too clean and uniform for ancient, spectral warriors.
Apply a brown or orange-brown wash (like Typhus Corrosion or Ryza Rust) to the recesses of the blades and crossbows to simulate age, then re-establish the edge with a bright silver.
Skeletal Detail Definition
The bone elements are a flat cream color and lack the anatomical definition needed to make the skulls and ribs pop.
Apply a targeted wash of sepia or skeleton horde contrast paint into the eye sockets and between the ribs, followed by a fine highlight of ivory on the most prominent bones.
Spectral OSL (Object Source Lighting)
The bright magenta body feels separate from the weapons and shrouds.
Lightly glaze a tiny amount of the magenta color onto the areas of the weapon or shroud closest to the ghost's 'flames' to simulate a magical light cast from the body.
